PODCASTS
What is podcasting?
Podcasting is an easy way to deliver audio programming. Distributed via MP3 audio files, podcasts can easily be accessed using your computer or portable MP3 player. Podcasts are like radio, only better, since you can listen to them when and where you wantin the car, at the gym. You can stop, rewind, listen again. And once you've subscribed to a podcast, your computer will automatically download new episodes as they become available.
How do I sign up for podcasting?
First, you'll need to install podcasting software on your computer. iPodder is an easy-to-use program that can be downloaded free of charge. Once it's installed, enter the Nextbook feed nextbook.org/podrss.xml at the top where it says "Add feed manually." iTunes also offers podcasting, with a sleeker design: download the program from Apple.com, then click on "Advanced" on the toolbar and "Subscribe to Podcast" on the drop-down menu. Then, enter the Nextbook feed.
Do I need an iPod or MP3 player to listen to Nextbook podcasts?
No. You can listen to the podcasts at your computer at home or work. You only need a portable player if you want to listen to episodes elsewhere.
I've subscribed to Nextbook's podcast. Now how do I listen to the episodes using iPodder?
iPodder will automatically check for and download new episodes of the Nextbook podcast whenever you start the program. If you want to listen to episodes while at your computer, go to the folder you selected to store your downloads (you can see or change this under the "Preferences" tab). You should see a Nextbook folderclick on this, then on the episode you'd like to hear. The file will open in your preferred audio player, such as RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. You can also manually transfer the files to your MP3 player to take the episode on the road.
I've subscribed to Nextbook's podcast. Now how do I listen to the episodes using iTunes?
iTunes will automatically download new episodes and add them to your library. You can then click on files to listen to them through iTunes at your computer, or transfer them to your iPod as you would any other audio file. Note: iTunes only supports iPod audio players. If you have a different MP3 player, however, you can still transfer Nextbook files from your iTunes music folder on your hard drive.
Do I have to subscribe to hear Nextbook podcasts?
No. You can also listen to episodes by clicking on the audio icon

that appears alongside every podcast feature on the Nextbook.org homepage. The file should then open in your preferred audio player. But only by subscribing can you be sure to hear every new episode as it appears.
I have more questions. Where can I send them?
Email
podcast@nextbook.org with concerns and feedback about our podcasts.

How can I become a speaker at a Nextbook program?
Speakers are selected by the public programs staff. In general, speakers are nationally recognized writers, critics, scholars, or cultural figures.
